Session One
Aims:
1. To get some knowledge about the use of body language
2. To finish the exercise A and B
Procedures:
1. Introduce the topic of the text by asking questions such as : Do you think when we talk with others we make ourselves understood only by words? Can we send messages to the people around us also by our facial expressions and body movements? Encourage the students to give some facial expressions and body movements. At this time, teach the new words: stance, slouch, clasp, facial expression, gesture, integration
2. Picture Talk
Ask more questions about the pictures and encourage the students to image and talk as much as they can and finish A1 on Page 20.
3. Finish Exercise A2 by skimming the text.
4. Finish Exercise A3 by scanning the text to find the words “give” “deliver” and so on.
5. Listen to the tape and then finish Exercise B
Homework : Listen to the text and preview the new vocabulary
Aims : To learn more new words and finish C1 on Page 23.
Procedures :
Listen to the tape one section after another and finish C1 to get the main idea of each paragraph and learn the following new words and phrases : verbal nonverbal, inhibit, distinct, inconvenienced, fall short of, run over the time
Homework :
1. Read the text and finish Exercise 2
2. Referring to the dictionary, preview the main points of the text.
3. Give the students Activity Material 1

2. To finish Exercise C2 on Page 23.

6.distract: v. to take a person or a person’s mind off sth 分 散,使分心

distraction n. distracting or being distracted
eg. Noise is a distraction when you are trying to study.

7.gesture n. a movement of a part of the body, esp. The hands or head etc. To express a certain meaning 表意的手势,姿势
make a rude gesture at sb. 做了个很粗鲁的手势
make a friendly gesture to sb.向某人表示友善的手势
make a gesture of refusal to sb. 向某人做拒绝的手势
in a gesture of despair 以一种绝望的姿势

Aims :
1. To review and learn the new words and main points
2. To explain the structures of the text
Procedures :
1. Use the Activity Material 2 to check if the students have mastered the new words and main points.
2. Encourage the students to talk about Exercise D1, using the words learnt in the text.
3. Invite some students to give speeches to the whole class. Ask others to make comments on their speeches.
4. Explain the structure of this unit----The Passive Form of the infinitive.
Homework:

Aim:
1. To finish the listening comprehension in the textbook.
2. To encourage the students to use what they have learnt in the unit to give different speeches.
Procedures :
1. To check the Language Focus exercises in the workbook.
2. Have a quick revision of the vocabulary and the structures of the text.
3. Listen to the tape and finish the listening comprehension in the textbook.
4. Speaking Practice
1) Work in pairs to make a list of “dos and don’ts” under the categories of: STANCE GESTURES EYE CONTSCT FACIAL EXRESSIONS.
Compare your notes with other pairs and improve your own.
2) Some students make reports on their favorite topics. The rest of the class make comments on the delivery of the report and discuss how to make your speeches more effective by using proper body language.
Homework: Do additional reading
Aims: To learn how to write a paragraph
Procedures:
1. To check the answers to the additional reading to make sure the students really understand the passage.
2. To teach the writing skill----Persuasive Paragraph by doing Part A(preparing for writing ) on page 30.
3. Finish B : write a paragraph under the title----Word Stories Help Improve English Learning on Page 31.
Homework: Finish the rest exercises in the workbook.
